🚩 Top 3 Swim Safety Mistakes Parents Make
Even the most prepared parents can make these common mistakes:
1️⃣ Relying on Floaties Instead of Life Jackets
Floaties and puddle jumpers can give kids a false sense of security. Always use a properly fitted life jacket when near deep water. My personal favourite for babies is Salus and as they get older the Hyperlite lifejackets. They live in them all summer so we want to make sure they are comfortable!
2️⃣ Choosing the Wrong Swimwear for Visibility
Dark colours and blue swimsuits can blend into the water, making it harder to see kids. Instead, opt for high-visibility colours like lime green, bright orange, or neon pink for easy spotting. I've created the hi-vis collection for exactly this swim safety!
3️⃣ Large Floaties
Those massive inflatable flamingos look like so much fun! However little kids are much harder to see when they are inside them and you can't tell if they are above or under the water. This can become dangerous quickly. Instead opt for a ball you can toss back and forth or flutter boards.
Swimming lessons are also a very important life skill in my opinion so they grow up confident around the water and are able to enjoy all of the fun on the lake!
